Quick Lit (1)

Welcome to Quick Lit, where we share short and sweet reviews of what we’ve been reading lately each month on the 15th. Brought to you by Anne at Modern Mrs. Darcy, we link up on her blog to see what others are reading!

Before the Fall by Noah Hawley

On a foggy summer night, eleven people–ten privileged, one down-on-his-luck painter–depart Martha’s Vineyard headed for New York. Sixteen minutes later, the unthinkable happens: the passengers disappear into the ocean. The only survivors are Scott Burroughs–the painter–and a four-year-old boy, who is now the last remaining member of a wealthy and powerful media mogul’s family.

Thoughts so far:

Coincidentally, I started reading this on a plane ride home from a work conference….. Needless to say, I did my best to keep those two separate haha. The guy next to me even asked what I was reading, and I had to laugh as I was explaining the synopsis to him because well, we were on a plane haha and nervous laughter eases me a bit. Regardless of the somber nature of the story, I am finding myself laughing at some of the character dynamics and thought processes. It is intriguing how the chapters alternate between the present aftermath of the crash and the stories of each of those on board leading up to that fateful day. I anticipated it to be more of a ‘Now What?’ type of story but I like learning the histories and personalities of the deceased and living. Our book club chose this title for December and I’m wondering what their thoughts are as we get ready for this upcoming Monday’s book discussion!
